What are we ?

We are a collective of Central Government Officers in Kerala and their families that strive to develop strong bonds among ourselves and to contribute our mite to the social, educational, artistic, literary and charity activities to discharge our social responsibilities. 


We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to making a positive impact in our community. 


Our mission is to empower individuals and create a better future for generations to come.


  • We encourage excellence in value-based education among the young by rewarding brilliant students and we extend a helping hand to the needy. 
  • We have an excellent track record of hand holding schools to raise their standards. 
  • We organize scholarly talks by movers and shakers in all fields of human activities be it science, education art or literature.
  • We are located in Panampilliy Nagar-the most happening place in Kochi, surrounded by the topnotch institutions/organizations such as Kerala Management Association, IDBI and Regional Passport Office, to name a few.
  • We own an imposing building that has a 3000 sq ft conference hall with the state-of-the art audiovisual equipment having seating capacity of 500 people. 


CGOA is fast emerging as a prestigious converging point of central government officers of the Kochi region, belonging to different Central Departments, Commodity Boards and Autonomous Research Organizations funded fully by central government. 


 

Brief History

  

The Central Government Officers’ Association, Kochi was originally formed as Central Government Officers’ Club in December 1985 with Shri. S. Manickavasagam as President, Shri. A.S. Shenoy as Secretary and Shri Ahmed Kunju as Treasurer. A good number of officers of the different central government departments in Kochi such as Income Tax, Customs, Central Excise, Marine Products Export Development Authority, Spices Board, Coir Board, Coconut Development Board, Export Inspection Agency, Mercantile Marine Department, Centre for Marine Living Resources & Ecology, Fisheries Survey of India, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, National Institute of Oceanography, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training,  Integrated Fisheries Project (now NIFPHATT), Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, to name a few, joined as members. The club was renamed as Central Government Officers' Association (CGOA) in January 2012.  


Since 1990, CGOA owns its own land (15 cents) allotted by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and located in a commercial-cum-residential building complex that was built as a joint venture by CGOA and M/s. BCG Builders. Apart from the office and auditorium, the  Association owns three flats in different floors (each of over 850 sq ft) and a conference hall of over 3000 sq.ft in the first floor. 


CGOA has been involved in a number of charitable activities by extending financial assistance to deserving patients for treatment of major diseases like cancer, kidney ailments and cardiac disorders. Regular scholarships are being given to the deserving students of Government Higher Secondary School, Panampilly Nagar. Educational assistance is  extended to students from low income group families in many schools across the State. Endowment Awards are given to meritorious students of Universities. CGOA has an excellent track record of extending helping hand to Okhi and flood victims.


The conference hall of the Association is being rented out to the public for organizing social events, training programmes and awareness campaigns (How to  Book ? The three flats owned by the Association have been rented out. 


The Association organizes family get-togethers at regular intervals with music programmes and other cultural activities. Talks and discussions on important topics and subjects of general interest are also arranged occasionally.


At present CGOA has a strength of 300 life members 

What do we do?

Scholarships/Awards

We award more than 50 scholarships (Rs.5000/each) to students of Government Higher Secondary School, Panampilly Nagar students of 8th to 12th Standards, mostly sponsored by our own members. The number of scholarships has crossed 40.  These efforts have borne point and this, once backward government school, has produced 100 % results in S.S.L.C, 2017, 2018 and 2019.


Every year we distribute many awards to the members and their family members for their outstanding achievements in research, education, arts, sports, etc.

Lending a helping hand

  • One of the main objectives of the Association is extending a helping hand to the needy and weaker sections in the Society. Every month, we are doling out medical assistance to many deserving patients suffering from cancer, kidney problems and other ailments.
  • CGOA has instituted a destitute pension scheme for a couple of people during 2022. 
  • CGOA facilitated conduct of Prathyaasa, a get together of  32  stroke victims and their caretakers on 30 Oct 2022. Leading neurologists, Physiotherapists, Ayurveda Physicians and Caretakers participated and  gave lectures on points to ponder.  Mr Madhu. S. Nair, M. D. Cochin Shipyard Ltd., inaugurated the programme. The fallout of Prathyaasa was the formation of a WhatsApp group of Stroke Rehab patients.
  • Helped people who lost livelihoods due to death of breadwinners and loss of tools in natural disasters

Flood relief

  • Okhi Relief Activities were organized under which ferro cement septic tanks were provided to 5 Okhi Victims of Chellanam at a cost of Rs.37,500.
  • The Association extended its help to the flood victims in a big way by  handing over household goods like cots, beds, fans, kitchen utensils as well as financial support to some deserving persons for carrying out repair and maintenance of their houses spending more than Rs.60,000/-. The beneficiaries were Shri. T.P. John and Smt. Mary Thomas from Annanad near Kadukutty; Shri. V. Ashokan of HMT Colony, Kalamassery; Nedumbassery Colony residents and Smt. Mini M.K of Thekke nada, Vaikom. 

Awareness campaigns

  • Awareness campaigns are conducted on occasions like National Science Day, National Technology day, and the Sports Day for selected students.  of IX to XII classes, 
  • Eminent scientists and teachers from various technological institutes in Kochi took classes on scientific topics.

Entertainment

  • We conduct music programmes where our own artistes and other eminent artistes from outside perform 
  • Family get togethers are regularly arranged with music, dance and other variety entertainments to celebrate various festivals like Onam, Christmas, Vishu and Diwali.
