CGOA is fast emerging as a prestigious converging point of central government officers of the Kochi region, belonging to different Central Departments, Commodity Boards and Autonomous Research Organizations funded fully by central government.
The Central Government Officers’ Association, Kochi was originally formed as Central Government Officers’ Club in December 1985 with Shri. S. Manickavasagam as President, Shri. A.S. Shenoy as Secretary and Shri Ahmed Kunju as Treasurer. A good number of officers of the different central government departments in Kochi such as Income Tax, Customs, Central Excise, Marine Products Export Development Authority, Spices Board, Coir Board, Coconut Development Board, Export Inspection Agency, Mercantile Marine Department, Centre for Marine Living Resources & Ecology, Fisheries Survey of India, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, National Institute of Oceanography, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training, Integrated Fisheries Project (now NIFPHATT), Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, to name a few, joined as members. The club was renamed as Central Government Officers' Association (CGOA) in January 2012.
Since 1990, CGOA owns its own land (15 cents) allotted by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and located in a commercial-cum-residential building complex that was built as a joint venture by CGOA and M/s. BCG Builders. Apart from the office and auditorium, the Association owns three flats in different floors (each of over 850 sq ft) and a conference hall of over 3000 sq.ft in the first floor.
CGOA has been involved in a number of charitable activities by extending financial assistance to deserving patients for treatment of major diseases like cancer, kidney ailments and cardiac disorders. Regular scholarships are being given to the deserving students of Government Higher Secondary School, Panampilly Nagar. Educational assistance is extended to students from low income group families in many schools across the State. Endowment Awards are given to meritorious students of Universities. CGOA has an excellent track record of extending helping hand to Okhi and flood victims.
The conference hall of the Association is being rented out to the public for organizing social events, training programmes and awareness campaigns (How to Book ?
